Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy Services

Occupational therapy services help students develop and strengthen the functional skills needed to participate successfully in learning, classroom activities, and daily educational routines. Support may address motor, sensory, visual, adaptive, organizational, and self-care skills that affect a student’s ability to access instruction, complete educational tasks, and participate more independently throughout the school day.

Services may include:

• Fine motor support to improve hand strength, coordination, grasp, tool use, manipulation of classroom materials, and precision skills

• Handwriting and written output support for letter formation, spacing, sizing, endurance, legibility, and completion of classroom assignments

• Visual-motor integration and visual-perceptual support for copying, tracking, scanning, eye-hand coordination, and functional learning tasks

• Sensory processing and regulation strategies to support attention, transitions, classroom participation, routines, and engagement in learning

• Self-regulation and executive functioning strategies for planning, organization, impulse control, emotional regulation, task initiation, task completion, and independence

• Self-care and daily living support for dressing, feeding-related routines, hygiene, toileting routines, and management of personal belongings when these skills affect participation during the school day

• Adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, and compensatory strategies to improve access, safety, positioning, participation, and independence

• School readiness and classroom participation support for students who need assistance with attention, motor skills, routines, materials, transitions, or learning tasks

• Motor planning, coordination, balance, and body awareness support when these areas affect participation in learning, classroom activities, or daily routines

• Consultation and collaboration with teachers, special education professionals, related service providers, and families to support student needs across educational environments

• Strategies and recommendations that can be incorporated into classroom routines and educational activities to encourage skill development and carryover

Our occupational therapy professionals work collaboratively with students, educators, families, and other members of the educational team to identify functional needs that may affect learning and participation. Services are individualized according to each student’s needs, with strategies and recommendations designed to increase independence, improve access to learning, and support meaningful participation throughout the educational experience.
